b meg integra Developer: Nightdive Studios, Computer Artworks Publisher: Nightdive Studios Release: Out On: Windows From: Steam / GOG Price: TBC Reviewed on: Intel Core i5-12600K, 32GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 2070, Windows 10 Nightdive, you done good. The Thing: Remastered is an ultra-sharp and commendably playable update to a game that history will remember as ‘actually a pretty good pick at Choices when you really just popped in to get some Revels but got embarrassed when the till staffer said “is that everything?” in a tone that could have been neutral but equally could have been a damning indictment of your character’. I’m being slightly facetious here, of course. History actually remembers Computer Artworks’s 2002 shooty horror game for how incredibly ambitious and conceptually inventive its proto-sus social squad system was. In homage to the body-snatching alien paranoia of Carpenter’s 1982 horror classic, The Thing tasks you with not just assembling and directing a squad, but keeping them from breaking down or turning on you - in fear you might be hosting the titular molecular stowaway. I’m happy for you, history, but I have played the game now , and I say this: the most remarkable feature of The Thing, in retrospect, is how it predicted the entire Dead Space trilogy in miniature. And by ‘in miniature’ I mean with overwhelming weight given to the part where someone decided to throw in modern military elements and bollocks the whole thing up. Again: Nightdive have delivered a fantastic remake. Every instance of a 2002 sound engineer pitching down a Nokia recording of their cat growling is crisp and distinct, and every face coming out an armpit hanging from a stalk is vivid. Controls and menus feel modern and intuitive, and the only change I made to the default settings was to turn on ‘old school aiming’. I had one recurring crash when an engineer kept dying on one level, otherwise, things went as smooth as the nose of a Swedish forest cat. Sorry. Norwegian. The question, then, is whether you’ll actually want to play it, which is sort of like asking if you want to spend your weekend at a museum. Full of live crabs covered in rotting meat. And you’re the janitor. And you’re not allowed to leave until you’ve cleaned all the crabs. With a malfunctioning electric toothbrush. But! It’s still a museum, and so contains exhibits both enriching and educational in how they contextualize the present state of button pushing and preserve older ideas on how button pushing could be done. In short: It’s an interesting game! It’s almost a really good horror game, but then it becomes a bad action game quite early on and basically stays that way for the rest of its runtime. It starts very strong, though. You play as Captain J.F. Blake, a pint tray runoff cocktail of several different military-type dude archetypes, sent to investigate the fallout of the film's events. A kind of Kurt Russel six degrees of character separation manifests here in the fact that Blake is effectively Solid Snake, minus all the camp and wit and doofy wisdom and self reflection and basically all charm or charisma. Still! when he asks what a noise was, he asks it with his entire ass. The film isn't required watching any more so than normal, which is to say: yes, it's required watching even if you don't plan to play this. Even if you watched it last week. Go watch The Thing again. The game's noteworthy peculiarity comes not from any of its myriad half-baked ideas in a vacuum, but the sheer number of half-baked ideas it has. You’ll use torches and flares to light darkened areas, fire extinguishers to access previously very on-fire areas, and syringes to calm panicking squadmates. You’ll find a thousand weapons per level, but give most of them to those same squadmates, alongside ammo. You’ll hijack security cameras to reveal door codes and occasionally do a turret section. Sometimes, you’ll lead your panicked squad for a nice jog outside to calm them down, making sure not to stay too long in case your ‘it’s cold!’ meter drains and you start taking health damage. You can even, in the most The Thingly thing The Thing does, take samples of your own blood to hold aloft in front of your squad to convince them you haven’t been taken over. Each squad member has a specialisation, a health bar, and a trust meter. Medics heals your squad, engineers can fix tricky fuse boxes, and so on. Accidentally shooting them makes trust go down, healing them and giving them guns makes it go up, as does the aforementioned “look at my blood!” trick. That this is maybe the only instance that waving a vial of your own blood at a stranger might logically result in increased good vibes is a testament to the premise’s enduring brilliance. So, early on, you walk slowly through corridors and dimly-lit research stations. Maybe one of your squadmates will see a corpse of a colleague, puke on the floor, and refuse to press on until you comfort them. You take care to keep everyone stocked on ammo and to not accidentally shoot anyone. It feels slow, deliberate, and atmospheric. You go on like this for about an hour, after which the game just runs out of ideas and starts chucking dozens upon dozens of the smallest, speediest, crawliest enemies at you every five minutes. There’s the occasional bit of lively tension when you have to flamethrower one of the bigger monsters without also cooking your squad in tight environs, but there’s also just so much ammo and so much bad shooting that it starts to smother all the other stuff. We're all very tired. But it's fine. We have like, 10 billion shotgun shells. Then, just when you feel it can go either way, the game doubles down on its commitment to ignoring the best parts of its own premise by throwing umpteen dudes with guns at you. They’re not an issue to deal with - keep your squadmates armed and they’ll snipe anything that comes within 100 feet of you more or less instantly. But their frequency does start to leech away the game’s flavour until all the previously echoing, dismal hallways just start to resemble bland boxes. Sometime after your second boss, the game responds to a clear opportunity to introduce a new type of monster with “ah, but, what if we gave the gun dudes flamethrowers now?”. As I said, it’s that Dead Space trilogy speedrun feeling: measured and effective horror giving way to action horror before being drowned out by several buckets of gun-having men. Occasionally, things get interesting in terms of stage design. A mission that sees you escape from a lab with no weapons, trapping enemies behind doors and ordering squadmates past security lasers feels downright inspired, and an earlier submarine jaunt represents that game’s claustrophobic horror at its best. But even early on, it’s easy to tell that shooting is the worst part - made interesting through context and other stressors - so as soon as the game doubles down on it, it really does fall apart. Which, to make clear once again, is absolutely no shade to Nightdive. The Thing stays interesting in its foibles even when it’s nowhere close to entertaining. And, on balance, I don’t regret my time with it. It’s a worthwhile bit of in-amber preservation, even if I don’t necessarily want to touch the insect inside if I can help it.Drones, planes or UFOs? ( MENAFN - IANS) Nairobi, Dec 13 (IANS) The Kenyan government will provide a safe corridor for the migration of skilled labour force to travel and settle abroad, generating revenue for the exchequer through remittances, senior officials said ahead of International Migrants Day, which is observed annually on December 18. Julius Bitok, the principal secretary for immigration and citizen services, acknowledged the pivotal role of migrant workers in socioeconomic development, skills transfer, and cultural vitality, whose legal protection is critical, reports Xinhua news agency. Bitok said the government is committed to a migration agenda that promotes the welfare of local citizens and those of neighbouring countries to achieve growth and stability. "Migration is critical to our nation's development agenda because it promotes talent, cultural diversity, skills and technology exchange. We will ensure there is safe and orderly migration," Bitok said. Ahead of this year's International Migrants Day, Kenya and the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) held a two-km walk in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, to raise awareness of migrants' rights and the benefits of regular migration pathways. Bitok said Kenya has domesticated global instruments to provide a safe haven for migrants from the region escaping from climate emergencies, conflicts or economic uncertainties. Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Roseline Njogu said the day serves as a wakeup call to harness the talent, ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit of migrants to fuel economic growth and social renewal in Kenya. According to Njogu, Kenya is committed to providing legal status to migrants from neighbouring countries and overseas, besides ensuring they have access to basic services like education, health, shelter and gainful employment. IOM Kenya Chief of Mission Sharon Dimanche noted that multilateral institutions have partnered with national governments to facilitate legal migration to bridge the skills gap and foster innovation, peace and cohesion. The 2024 International Migrants Day will be observed under the theme of "Honoring the contributions of migrants and respecting their rights," which underscores their positive contribution to host countries' welfare. Wisconsin faces its first losing season in 23 years and the end of a bowl streak when the Badgers host arch-rival Minnesota on Friday in the annual Big Ten battle for Paul Bunyan's Axe. Minnesota (6-5, 4-4) lost to No. 4 Penn State 26-25. Wisconsin (5-6, 3-5 Big Ten) lost its fourth straight, 44-25, at Nebraska in a game that was not as close as the score. "Well 1890 is the first time we played this football team coming up and this is what it's all about," Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck said of the rivalry. "And you wouldn't want to have it any other way, being able to end the season with one of your biggest rivals. I know our guys will be ready to go, ready to play." Wisconsin has 22 consecutive winning seasons since going 5-7 under Barry Alvarez in 2001, the longest active streak among Power 4 teams. The Badgers also have played in a bowl game in each of the last 22 seasons, the longest active streak in the Big Ten and third-longest in FBS. Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell is more concerned with the rivalry game than the winning season and bowl streaks. "I'm not downplaying it, I'm not saying it's not important, I'm not saying it's another thing that's on our plate," Fickell said Monday. "But when it gets down to this last week, it's about one thing, it's about the rivalry. It's about preparing to play in the most important game of the year." The Gophers have dropped their last two games after winning four in a row. Minnesota averages 26.6 points per game, while allowing 18.5, 15th-best in the country. Max Brosmer has completed 67 percent of his passes for 221 per game with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions. Daniel Jackson is the top target with 69 catches for 802 yards and three scores, and Darius Taylor is the top rusher with 730 yards at 4.8 per carry with nine touchdowns. One week after leading Oregon after three quarters, the Wisconsin defense was shredded for 473 yards and five touchdowns by Nebraska. Braedyn Locke, who took over at quarterback when Tyler Van Dyke suffered an early season-ending knee injury, has thrown at least one interception in eight consecutive games. Locke has completed 56.4 percent of his passes for 180.6 yards per game, with 12 touchdowns and 10 picks. Tawee Walker is the leading rusher with 828 yards at 4.7 per carry with 10 touchdowns. He has failed to reach 60 yards in three of the last four games. Former Wisconsin and NFL standout JJ Watt posted on social media his assessment - and frustration - with the Badgers after the Nebraska game. "Losing happens, it's part of the game. Hearing announcers talk about how much tougher and more physical Nebraska & Iowa are while getting blown out ... that's the issue," Watt wrote on X. "We are Wisconsin. Physicality, running game, great O-Line and great defense. That is our identity." Wisconsin defeated the Gophers 28-14 last after Minnesota had won the previous two meetings. The Badgers have won 7 of the last 10 and lead the storied series 63-62-8. --Field Level MediaRedefining the Future of Shopping: Jingo Gains Silicon Valley's Backing

Javon Small scored 31 points to rally West Virginia to an 86-78 overtime upset of No. 3 Gonzaga in the opening round of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, Wednesday in Nassau, Bahamas. The Mountaineers (4-1) trailed by 10 points early in the second half and by five in the final minute. But over the final 19 seconds of regulation, Tucker DeVries scored five straight points to send the game to overtime. In the extra session, Small scored five points and West Virginia held Gonzaga to a single field goal, which came after the outcome was decided with 19 seconds left. Amani Hansberry added a career-high 19 points and eight rebounds for West Virginia, which advances to the semifinals Thursday against another surprise first-round winner, Louisville, which stunned No. 15 Indiana. Braden Huff scored 19 points and Khalif Battle added 16 points for Gonzaga (5-1) which settles for a consolation-round game Thursday against Indiana. Nolan Hickman tallied 13 points. Ryan Nembhard delivered seven points and 12 assists for the Bulldogs. Huff put Gonzaga in position to win when he made three hook shots in the final 2:34 of regulation as the Bulldogs turned a one-point deficit into a 69-66 lead. Two free throws by Nembhard expanded the lead to 71-66 with 25 seconds left. But DeVries followed with a 3-pointer from the top of the key and then made a mid-court steal and drew a foul with 5.9 seconds left. His two free throws sent it to overtime. The Mountaineers never trailed in overtime. Sencire Harris wrapped it up with a steal and a breakaway slam that put West Virginia up 84-76 with 26 seconds left. Battle, a transfer from Arkansas, scored eight points in a span of 90 seconds late in the first half as the Bulldogs took control on their way to a 39-31 lead at the break. Gonzaga earned its biggest lead early in the second half when Graham Ike scored inside with an assist from Nembhard to make it 43-33. But West Virginia responded with a 17-2 run, fueled by Small as he hit two 3-pointers and two layups. Hansberry drained a trey and DeVries grinded for a putback layup to give the Mountaineers a 50-45 lead with 12:26 left. DeVries finished the game with 16 points and four blocks. --Field Level Media

With the goal of promoting downtown St. Paul as a positive alternative to working from home, a downtown co-working space has teamed with the city to host a lottery for six months of free work area, as well as free parking in a city ramp. Wellworth — which offers conference rooms, private phone rooms and open-air work environments for individuals and small companies — is situated on the top floor of the former Woolworth building along Seventh Place and Minnesota Street. The “Workdays Are Perkdays” lottery, which will select 20 winners by early January, is the brainchild of St. Paul City Council Member Rebecca Noecker and the St. Paul Downtown Alliance, a partnership between major downtown employers and City Hall. A site tour is required before entering the lottery, and entries must be submitted by Dec. 31. “All of downtown benefits from having those additional workers,” Noecker said. “St. Paul has challenges, but St. Paul is at its heart a scrappy, creative city. If businesses are having trouble (locating), provide them the concierge service to overcome those challenges and get them downtown.” The “Workdays Are Perkdays” campaign aims to encourage people “to see downtown as a vibrant workplace option by shining a light on the sun-lit Wellworth space and the activities that are steps away in downtown,” reads the promotional materials, which note that many office workers have grown tired of working from home. Work from home has its limits Noecker, who approached the Downtown Alliance with the idea of launching the lottery, said she found few examples of a similar effort nationally. “Obviously, there’s convenience to working from home in your PJs, but a lot of limitations to that, too,” said Noecker, who called working around peers, restaurants and amenities like a post office a livelier experience than a home office. “The investment on our end is to try to get people over that hump — ‘I don’t know where I’d work, where I’d park, my company may not pay for it.'” “In my mind, it’s a creative approach to help people see the benefits of working downtown they may not have considered or have had the opportunity to do before,” she added. “If you live in St. Paul and work in Burnsville, you might not have had the opportunity (to work downtown) before. But now if your employer is saying ‘work from home,’ you can.” The six-month package with paid parking is valued at $1,650, and those who don’t win may still qualify for discounts off a six-month membership. The Downtown Alliance is promoting the campaign with YouTube videos and “influencer”-style Instagram testimonials from active Twin Cities social media users. The version that appears below has been lightly edited for style and format. Around 2:45am on Nov. 6, once it became clear that Donald Trump had the 2024 presidential election in the bag, Dana White took the stage at Mar-a-Lago to get the party started. The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s head honcho delivered half a minute of praise for Trump’s resilience, work ethic and other character traits that he very obviously doesn’t possess. Then White moved on to some shoutouts to “manosphere” entertainers in his inner circle that he considered integral to the former president’s reelection. That list ended with “the mighty and powerful Joe Rogan ,” because of course it did. But the very first people White thanked from the Mar-a-Lago stage last week, with the newly minted president-elect looking approvingly over his shoulder and the cameras beaming him around the world, were the Nelk Boys. The YouTube edgelords-turned-GOP darlings had made it to the inner sanctum. And they brought their shockingly successful hard seltzer brand , Happy Dad, with them. Related Joe Rogan officially endorses Trump following sit down with Elon Musk I’ve been tracking the Nelk Boys’ ascent to MAGA royalty since March 2022, when Trump appeared on their podcast, “Full Send.” The episode would quickly become notorious when YouTube pulled it down for violating its guidelines about misinformation about the 2020 election, but what caught my eye was the 12-pack of Happy Dad hard seltzer placed conspicuously in frame. It’s not uncommon for influencers to try to leverage their online popularity by launching beverage-alcohol brands, but it’s a rare influencer that’s able to place their own flavored malt beverage on the elbow of the former president of the United States. I began looking into the relationship, filing an initial report that spring , and additional items ever since. Now, two years removed from that first podcast episode, and just weeks removed from the 2024 election, I think it’s important to put it all together. At the nexus of the Nelk Boys, White and Trump are millions of Zyn-popping frat bros , heavily armed "Punisher"-misunderstanders and other too-online jamokes slamming Happy Dad and getting angry about “the border.” They’re mostly anonymous chuds, but some of them are very famous and powerful chuds, like conservative reactionary Caitlyn Jenner, former Fox News demagogue Tucker Carlson and Elon Musk, who has been tapped by Trump to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) after years of hyping up cryptocurrency Dogecoin. Here’s how together, they helped reelect Trump. For those lucky enough to still be unfamiliar: the Nelk Boys are a collective of dudes who do pranks and objectify women for tens of millions of views each month on their main channel , which boasts 8.25 million subscribers. In 2021, the Nelk Boys launched Happy Dad, a hard seltzer in a standard 12-ounce beer can meant to differentiate it from the “skinny can bulls**t” of segment leaders White Claw and Truly. We need your help to stay independent Subscribe today to support Salon's progressive journalism That’s a very thin reed upon which to hang an upstart brand in a crowded segment that was then beginning to plateau, but with Nelk’s media machine behind it, and legions of opted-in young drinkers clamoring for Nelk, Happy Dad has done very, very well. It’s a top-five hard seltzer brand nationwide, and has recently begun showing up in Circana scan-data snapshots of the top 25 brands across all beer in some channels. Sophisticated, experienced firms like Boston Beer Company hardly know what to do about the now-struggling hard-seltzer market, but Happy Dad and its interloping founders are thriving. It’s impossible to say how much of that success is due to Nelk Boys’ Trump-ward lurch (which began in 2020 with a ride on the recently ousted president’s plane), but I think it’s helped. In 2022, I argued that embracing the former president’s conspiracy-addled worldview gave Happy Dad a lane to a customer that mainstream brands simply couldn’t reach: This is a longstanding tradition on the American right wing, and hard seltzer, as an ahistorical, premium-priced beverage that’s relatively inexpensive to make and carries no cultural baggage, is an ideal product for aspiring 20-something hucksters like the Nelk Boys to hawk to an impressionable young audience already thirsty for line-stepping, anti-PC troll theater. In other words, if Happy Dad succeeds long-term, it won’t be in spite of the group’s decision to cozy up with Donald Trump and tweet endorsements from Alex Jones — it’ll be, at least in part, because of it. Two years later, the opposite has also proven true. Whether the UFC’s White, a conservative star in his own right who would go on to sign a $100-million deal to be Anheuser-Busch InBev’s anti-woke henchman in 2023, then introduce Trump at the Republican National Convention in 2024, orchestrated the 2022 interview to help the Nelk Boys, Trump, or both isn’t clear. But whatever prominence with MAGA drinkers the Nelk Boys gained for Happy Dad by simping for a lifelong teetotaler in Trump, they would also repay in spades once the 2024 presidential campaign began in earnest. They rose together, in a sense: the brand, up the hard-seltzer sales charts; the election-denier, in popularity with the conservative young males he’d need to return to the White House. In March 2023, Happy Dad muscled its way into the top 10 bestselling hard seltzers in the country. The following month, a freshly indicted Trump ran into the Nelk Boys at — what else — a UFC fight in Miami, where the group posted videos of the former president receiving a standing ovation interspersed with clips of a Happy Dad-sponsored fighter doing a shoe-y with the hard seltzer. “The chance [2023] meeting led to a second appearance” on “Full Send,” reported TIME in a sprawling election post-mortem earlier this month. “His closest confidantes didn’t realize it at the time, but interviews on male-focused podcasts would become a throughline of his extraordinary political resurrection.” By early 2024, Trump was once again consolidating power on the campaign trail, and the Nelk Boys were very much along for the ride, helping to repackage the candidate's alleged cognitive decline and vile racism as epic own-the-libs machismo to hordes of credulous Happy Dad customers. In Nevada this past February, the then-presumptive GOP candidate shouted out the conservative #creators from the campaign stump, marveling at the reach of their 2022 interview before YouTube spiked it. At a golf tournament later that year, Nelk members kitted out in Happy Dad swag glad-handed with Trump wearing Happy Dad apparel. Trump’s conviction in May in New York presented an opportunity for the Nelk Boys to deploy their damn-the-torpedoes schtick in service of their beloved bully-in-chief. They did just that, posting “Free Trump” to their 4.2 million Instagram followers. In August, when Trump’s oafish running mate, Ohio senator JD Vance, joined TikTok, his first post was a video of him accepting a 12-pack of Happy Dad from Nelk ringleader Kyle Forgeard after recording a podcast episode with the group. At a Las Vegas rally in late August, the group appeared with Trump on-stage while Happy Dad promo girls handed out hard seltzers to the crowd outside; a month later in the same city, Forgeard endorsed Trump to a stadium crowd, then did some fan-service about taxes on Zyn, the preferred nicotine source of the American right’s angry young flat-brims. Of course White shouted them out at Trump’s election victory party last week — they were basically running his Gen Z surrogacy operation, and delivering millions and millions of free media impressions in the process. Don’t think they don’t know it. Two weeks before the Nelk Boys moment of MAGA glory at Mar-a-Lago, Forgeard appeared on Fox News for an interview with host Jesse Watters to talk about Trump’s late-game pivot to “manosphere” entertainers like Rogan, Theo Vonn and the Nelk Boys themselves. “So you’re taking full credit for him blowing up in the podcast world?” Watters asked. “Oh, we’re taking full credit,” Forgeard responded. On his head perched a Happy Dad hat. This story was originally published by Fingers , an independent newsletter about drinking in America. The Kings headed into Saturday’s rubber match of their three-game homestand with serious concerns about their power play as well as some individual offensive performers that they hoped to get back afloat against the surging Seattle Kraken. They disposed of the dead-tired Detroit Red Wings to kick off the homestand – which is part of nine straight games to be played in California – but were shut out for the first time this season by the Buffalo Sabres Wednesday. The black and silver became the not-so-proud owners of the NHL’s worst power play since Nov. 10 – they’ve scored no power-play goals since Nov. 9 and that one was an empty-netter – and have the fourth-worst conversion rate over all of 2024-25. Their 0-for-5 performance as they were bageled 1-0 by Buffalo was their third such display this season, including an 0-for-6 showing in a loss to lowly San Jose . They’ve gone 0 for 4 on four other occasions, and went without a power-play goal in 13 of their 20 games so far. Their newly assembled top unit of five forwards has had the vibe of Dean Smith’s four-corner offense at times and, at its best, has produced nothing but near misses. The second unit’s struggles have been season-long, with the ineffectual play of both groups rendering meaningless the Kings’ numerous bromides about “looks” and “movement.” Their struggles haven’t been limited to the power play either. Overall, they’ve lost four of their past six games, and in those defeats they’ve managed a meager 1.25 goals per game. Forward Quinton Byfield signed a lucrative extension this summer with the expectation that he’d push upward into the top tier of the Kings’ scoring leaderboard. But instead of chasing captain Anže Kopitar, Byfield’s production has more closely mirrored that of checker Trevor Lewis. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 draft surmounted several setbacks: a broken ankle and not one but two viral illnesses, one of which robbed him of about 25 pounds. Last season, he appeared poised for a breakout, but mixed form, tentativeness and tough luck have inhibited him in the first quarter of this campaign. “He’s had tough stretches before that he’s come out of,” Kings coach Jim Hiller said. “If anybody’s faced adversity, it’s been him through the first run of his career here. So, he’s been through that, he’ll get through it.” Hiller remarked that Byfield “wasn’t alone” among players who could not convert Wednesday. He also wasn’t unaccompanied in a crowd of slumping Kings. Winger Kevin Fiala has gone pointless in six straight games and defenseman Jordan Spence has spent much of the season turning the puck over as if he were cooking it on a grill. Meanwhile, Brock Faber, whom the Kings dealt along with a first-round pick for Fiala, has been the No. 1 defenseman for the West’s second-best team to date, the Minnesota Wild. Even the Kings’ early-season scorchers have cooled significantly. Brandt Clarke has been held scoreless in four straight games and six of his past seven. In his last two games, he and the top power-play unit have clearly missed each other. Related Articles Alex Laferriere remained in that grouping, but his production continued to sag. After a torrid stretch of eight goals in 10 games, he has one goal in his last eight appearances and no points in his four most recent outings. Slumping totals and shoulders alike will have to straighten up against leading scorer Jared McCann and Seattle, which rebounded from a four-game winless skid to capture five of its past six decisions. The Kraken have killed 90% of its penalties during their ascent, good for sixth in the NHL, and allowed a miserly 1.67 goals per game, the fourth-best mark in the league during that span. ... Donates Bus For Propagation Of Islam IBADAN – Oyo State governor ‘Seyi Makinde, has commended the Muslim Community in the state for its immense support for his administration and the contributions of the Muslim Ummah to the growth and development of the state since he assumed office. The governor stated this on Tuesday, while receiving the Muslim Community of Oyo State, led by its leader, Alhaji Kunle Sanni, on a courtesy visit at the Executive Chamber, Office of the Governor, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan. Governor Makinde also donated a bus to the Muslim Community, urging them to continue to resist tendencies that can divide the state through religion or politics. The governor said, “Since 2019, I can say it without any bias that some of the quality advice that I have gotten in terms of governance came from our Muslim leaders. So, I don’t discriminate. “When some people came and said that the cabinet is lopsided, while I try to balance things, I also look for quality. If you look at the education sector, Commissioner for Education is a Muslim. SUBEB Chairman is a Muslim. Barrister Abdulraheem Abiodun, the chairman of Education Trust Fund, is a Muslim. I have nothing to hide.” He added, “They said the appointment of Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning is lopsided. It used to be Finance and Economic Planning but when we came in, we split it into two. And it is almost everything that is going on in Finance that is visible to someone doing Budget and Economic Planning. “Anything they want to bring to Exco, they will ask if it has been captured in the budget. If it is there, they will check how much has been spent and how much is remaining. He is the custodian and he is a Muslim. So, we have nothing to hide. “I will keep saying it that if people want to divide us along religious or political lines, we as leaders must resist that attempt and expose them. “So, I want to say that it is our state; some have come and gone and I will go too. Whatever we do for our state is what the successor will meet and continue from there. “I am begging you that we should resist their attempts, because there are people that will profit from our division. But if we don’t allow division, they will go elsewhere. “Day before yesterday, one of the Christian leaders said some people are bringing up the issue of Sharia Court again in Oyo State. And I said, for me in Oyo State, our laws and constitution is what I swore to uphold. If they are within the law, fine. But if they are not, they should expect that I will insist that the law must be followed. “So, I want to use this opportunity to say that if there are certain people using the issue to play politics, they should have a rethink and constantly stay on the side of the law.” Speaking on the Ibadan stampede incident, Governor Makinde assured that the law would take its due course to prevent future occurrence. “The incident at Islamic High School was avoidable and the loss of innocent lives was a sad one. Some of them would have been future leaders. Some are could have been future presidents but the dreams are dead. And then, I listened to people on social media who were saying that because I know Oriyomi Hamzat, justice won’t prevail. I said to myself that these people don’t probably know the kind of person their governor is. “When Prof. was talking, he said something about tempering justice with mercy. Yes, we will get to that but if my child was part of those that died, I would be saying something totally differently. And, no life is bigger than any other life, we are equal before God. “It is easier for people to say I know some certain people and they should be treated as such. What about the 35 innocent souls that died, don’t they also deserve justice? That was why early this year, I signed off the rule of law enforcement authority. We want our systems to be working like that of developed world. Rule is rule; law is law. But for us, we don’t want to do those things and they are impeding our progress. “Inasmuch as we’re are fair to everybody, it is fine. On my watch, whoever deserves justice will get it. And how do we ensure that this thing does not occur again? Those are the things we have to look into. “Finally, I will say that we are not infallible. We are all mortals. Wherever you think we have fallen short, call our attention to it and we will make correction. No matter how we try, we will still make mistakes.” Earlier in his speech, the Leader of the Muslim Community, Alhaji Sanni, expressed gratitude to the governor for the massive recruitment of teachers into the primary and secondary schools, describing the act as capable of lifting people from poverty to prosperity. He also commended the governor’s giant strides in developing the state through various infrastructure projects across the geopolitical zones of the state. Sanni urged the governor to employ more subject teachers and equally allow religious studies teachers to impact directly on the students in order to curb moral decadence among pupils and students in various schools. The event had in attendance the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal; former deputy governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi; wife of former governor of Oyo State, Chief Mrs Mutiat Ladoja; former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Senator Monsurat Sumonu; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi; and PDP South-West Woman Leader, Alhaja Bose Adedibu. Others were the Senior Executive Assistant to the Governor on General Duties, Chief Bayo Lawal; top government functionaries and the executive members of the Muslim Community, among others.Menendez is seeking a new trial after prosecutors admit computer fumbleMEDIROM Healthcare Technology‘s Subsidiary, MEDIROM MOTHER Labs, Raises an Aggregate Total of JPY260.3 Million in its Series A Financing Round
